Message from Charles McAteer, UUP Vice President for Professionals

Greetings, reetings, from your VP for Professionals for the West campus chapter, my name is Charlie McAteer and I have been at SBU since 1978 in the facilities group. Having been involved with the NYS union movement for over 25 years in various local and statewide positions, I serve to advocate for your interests as professionals and will keep our collective professional needs and concerns in the forefront.

One of my main missions is to work with our part time concerns group and retirees to keep the professionals in these groups informed, hear their concerns and work with the officers who are overseeing those areas for our chapter to continue to serve them better. Another is to work with next UUP contract team forming this year for the coming in 2011-2015 contract negotiations, it will very important to communicate your needs to the contract team.

As your VP, I look to continue the wide range of seminars, programming and meetings while looking for your suggestions and topics. If you or you know of someone who would like to present to your fellow professionals please contact me to discuss it. I will be partnering with various chapter officers & committees to help coordinate various topics of mutual interest to our Professionals and other UUP members keeping the programs to the one hour lunchtime format.

I plan to meet with my UUP east campus counterparts to look at possible joint events, share ideas and network to allow me to better represent you the UUP Professional. I hope you will consider coming to an upcoming UUP event and stop by and say hello and or contact me with your thoughts and questions.
