The Blackboard Course Management System is a powerful tool that can be used to provide an online component for your classes. Blackboard can be used to post your syllabus and readings, and contains other useful tools you may want to such as a class discussion board, a grade book, and online quizzes. The College currently has 26 Smart Classrooms, and will be adding more this year. This workshop includes a demonstration of the components common to our smart rooms (Sympodium touch screen, projection, Smart Boards, Clickers, and video), with real-world tips and strategies for their effective use from professors who have used them successfully. This session meets in the Library Smart Classroom. Lunch will be served.

There are a bewildering array of security issues and threats out there, along with regulations, procedures and policies designed to protect confidential data held by the college. Social Networking: the Good, Bad, and the Ugly

This hands-on workshop covers social networking tools – good, bad, and ugly - that have gained popularity over the last 5 years. After a brief look at the popular commercialized sites (Myspace, Facebook, etc) we will look at other sites and services that define social networking, and then at a variety of virtual worlds like Second Life that are the next technological leap forward. We also look at the College’s social networking site - Planet.Purchase.edu - a Wiki / Blog tool for the Purchase Community. This session meets in CTS Training Center SS0025. Lunch will be served.

The focus of this workshop is Styles and how they can help with everything from formatting to navigation to Tables of Contents. This class is for those who create large documents and need to edit and manage them easily. Participants should have a strong working knowledge of Word basics including character and paragraph formatting, copy/cut and paste, indenting and using bullet and number lists. Database Searching Using 360 Search

Need to find articles in the Purchase College databases, but don't want to have to search each database individually? Want to be able to cross search databases of your choosing? Come to this workshop to learn how to make the most of our new Cross Database Search tool. You’ll learn to query all databases in a particular subject, or specific databases of your own choosing from a single interface. We’ll also show you how to use the Find It! at Purchase button to link you directly to full-text articles, to the library’s catalog, to InterLibrary Loan for items we do not have, and to export citations into RefWorks. Lunch will be provided courtesy of UUP.
