The New Paltz Chapter of the United University Professions (UUP) represents the interests and concerns of all academic and professional staff, full- and part-time, at the State University of New York, New Paltz campus. Officers and Delegates to the three annual Delegate Assemblies are volunteers, elected for terms of two-years by a vote of the membership at the SUNY: New Paltz campus. New Paltz is one of twenty-nine Chapters that represent the various campus types within the State University of New York. As a Liberal Arts College, New Paltz joins with other campus types—Graduate Centers, University Colleges of Technology, Health Science Centers, Environmental Science and Forestry, and Empire State College. UUP statewide represents 29,000 academics and professionals across New York State.
At New Paltz, the Executive Committee, made up of the elected Officers, Delegates/Alternate Delegates, and UUP Chairs of on-campus standing committees, meets regularly during the academic year. As a higher education union in New York State, UUP negotiates terms and conditions for academic and professional staff with the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations (GOER), creating a contractual agreement statewide. The Chapter Leadership at each campus monitors the implementation of the contract locally, and meets with College Administrators at least monthly to clarify ambiguities in contractual language. On some occasions, UUP initiates grievance procedures on behalf of a member to correct procedural errors in the application of campus rules that affect the member adversely.
