About UUP Binghamton Binghamton's chapter of United University Professions, UUP, is here to serve you. Our 1,400 members are part of over 35,000 Academics and Professionals statewide. We offer advocacy, protection and representation.
Advocacy Your union represents you at the bargaining table, in the halls of state government, and in SUNY. Your union negotiates regular salary increases, increased health benefits, and other advantages through group action and support. Your union is a player with the governor and state legislators--representing your interests through lobbying efforts. Your union promotes the importance of each campus in SUNY through advocacy at Central Administration.
Protection Your union also ensures due process is followed by the university. Your union stands with you when you feel a promotion or salary increase is warranted by providing information and support as well as an appeal mechanism. Your union stands with you when charged with violations of the contract by providing a representative at meetings with the administration as well as guaranteeing your rights are not curtailed. Your union stands with you when you feel your rights have been violated by providing a process, a representative to support your claims and follow-up to ensure a fair and equitable resolution.
Representation Your union provides an opportunity for you to voice your feelings about issues affecting you, your department or program, and the university. Your union regularly publishes a newsletter widely distributed on campus designed to spark discussions on important issues facing the campus and elsewhere. Your union regularly sponsors seminars, brown bag lunches, and other sessions designed not only to provide information but also to elicit feedback from you. Your union carries out surveys designed to focus attention on a very specific topic important to a group on campus. Your union holds monthly Executive Board meetings designed to review issues brought to them and determine a course of action to address those issues. Your union has regular meetings with management designed to voice your concerns and seek solutions to those concerns.
